“Too often I see people who think they are broken, or don’t have chemistry with their partner. When in fact, all that is happening is that they are anxious. So if this is something that you struggle with on occasion, please know that it’s not terminal. After thirty years in clinical practice, I have come to the conclusion that just about everyone is anxious about sex, at least at some point. We all have some trepidation. “Will my body do what I want it to do, when I want it to?” “Is my ass/penis – substitute relevant body part – too big/small?”, “Will I make a weird face when I cum?” (Yes, you will.) “Will my lover take it personally if I don’t orgasm?” You get the gist. Most of our fears are variations on the theme of “Am I good enough?” With men, anxiety speeds things up and they cum sooner than they’d like. With women it slows things down.”
I call it “garden variety” performance anxiety because it affects most of us at some point.
